About WCS
The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) is a U.S.-based non-profit established in 1895, dedicated to saving wildlife and wild places through science-driven solutions and conservation actions. WCS has worked in Nigeria since 2001, supporting protection and management of key protected areas and species, alongside community livelihood and WASH support.

Job Summary
Lead efforts to strengthen governance, institutional capacity, and stakeholder collaboration within the WCS Nigeria Program. Support protected area management structures, facilitate multi-stakeholder platforms, and advance community-led conservation governance. Ensure governance systems are inclusive, transparent, and aligned with WCS values. Reports to the Program Manager and works closely with the Country Director.

Key details
- Location: Bauchi, Bauchi State (extensive travel to Abuja, Cross River landscape & field sites)
- Position type: Full-time
- Contract: Fixed term
- Duration: 13 months (renewable based on funds)

Key responsibilities (highlights)
- Establish/operationalise management committees and governance platforms for protected areas
- Facilitate inclusive stakeholder representation (including pastoralists and communities)
- Strengthen accountability and transparency mechanisms
- Coordinate multi-stakeholder dialogues; support conflict mediation
- Provide training/mentorship on governance, conflict resolution, NRM
- Document governance processes and track progress for learning and donor reporting

Qualifications (highlights)
- Master’s in governance/public policy/environmental management/development studies (or bachelor’s with significant experience)
- 5+ years governance/institutional strengthening/stakeholder engagement (conservation/NRM preferred)
- Experience facilitating multi-stakeholder platforms and conflict mediation
- Knowledge of Nigeria/local governance systems; English & Hausa
