ROLE OVERVIEW
The IFC Country Office in Lagos is seeking a Country Officer to promote and coordinate IFC investment and advisory activities in Nigeria. Reporting to the Nigeria Country Head, the role works with private-sector, government, development-partner and World Bank Group counterparts to develop business, support deal structuring and negotiation, and advance IFC’s country strategy and project pipeline.
KEY DUTIES
• Support the Nigeria Country Head in overseeing IFC activities and office operations.
• Help implement IFC’s Nigeria strategy and prepare business-plan updates.
• Contribute to WBG strategy documents, including Country Strategies, Country Private Sector Diagnostics and Country Partnership Frameworks.
• Monitor Nigeria’s economic and political environment and provide local market intelligence.
• Work with IFC investment, advisory, upstream, World Bank and MIGA teams to develop the project pipeline.
• Build and maintain senior relationships with private-sector leaders, government officials, development partners and WBG colleagues.
• Support client selection and KYC processes.
• Assist with project structuring, implementation and transaction progress.
• Support development-partner relations and fundraising for advisory and upstream projects.
• Coordinate country missions, board papers, management briefs and high-profile events.
• Monitor the portfolio, help resolve issues and maintain strong client relationships.
• Represent IFC externally and ensure requests are addressed promptly.
SELECTION CRITERIA
• Master’s degree in finance, business administration, management, economics or a related field.
• At least eight years of relevant experience in investment or commercial banking, public-private partnerships, management consulting, or investment/advisory operations.
• Africa experience or strong regional interest; Nigeria or other fragile and conflict-affected settings experience is an advantage.
• Ability to assess business opportunities, risks and investment viability.
• Ability to develop creative, bankable projects and use business-development skills effectively.
• Strong analytical, financial modelling, credit and transaction-structuring skills are advantageous.
• Understanding of IFC investment and advisory products and how they complement each other.
• Proven senior stakeholder relationship-management and external representation skills.
• Team supervision, mentoring and training experience.
• Strong leadership, influencing, collaboration and matrix-working skills.
• Excellent client-service, problem-solving, critical-thinking and presentation skills.
• Proficiency with Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
