About the role

The Senior Driver will provide safe, reliable and professional transportation and vehicle-support services for CBM’s Country Office in Nigeria. This is a local-hire position; expatriation is not intended.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain vehicles, accessories, fuel, cleanliness and compliance with standard operating procedures.
• Manage driving licences, vehicle servicing and security-apparatus installation and maintenance.
• Conduct daily checks and basic maintenance, including oil, water, batteries, brakes, tyres and minor repairs.
• Maintain insurance records, vehicle logs, first-aid kits and spare-parts documentation.
• Inspect vehicles before long-distance journeys.
• Transport staff and visitors for project activities, hotel transfers and airport transfers.
• Maintain accurate logbooks covering mileage, destinations, times, passengers, maintenance and fuel.
• Provide interpretation support for people who do not speak the local language.
• Follow travel, vehicle, safety, security and safeguarding policies.
• Support staff induction on vehicle SOPs and follow accident protocols.
• Document expenses and receipts and report incidents to management and police when required.
• Support asset listing, tagging and management.
• Liaise with vendors to obtain quality goods and services at competitive prices.

Qualifications and experience

• Minimum Secondary School Leaving Certificate or equivalent.
• Valid driving licence; Class B, C or E preferred according to local regulations.
• At least four years of related work experience; experience with an international NGO is preferred, with at least three years operating in the relevant state.
• Basic computer and Microsoft Office skills are advantageous.
• Excellent knowledge of local driving rules, traffic laws and city routes.
• Knowledge of safety standards and equipment, including fire extinguishers.
• Ability to read and interpret safety and vehicle-maintenance documentation.
• Basic emergency assistance and first-aid knowledge.
• Experience working in insecure areas and following safety, security and safeguarding policies.
• Fluent spoken and written English; knowledge of a local language is advantageous.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage several tasks at the same time.
• Ability to work in multicultural environments, independently and as part of a team, with high integrity.
• Willingness to travel within and outside the capital and to field locations.
• Self-starter attitude, initiative and commitment to quality improvement.
• Identification with Christian values and CBM’s mandate.
