ABOUT THE ROLE
The ILO technical assistance forms part of the Rural Access and Agriculture Marketing Project (RAAMP), Nigeria, delivered by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development with five State Project Implementation Units. The Driver will support the team with missions, day-to-day office logistics and official travel.
REPORTING
The Driver reports to the Chief Technical Advisor under the overall guidance of the Director of the ILO Country Office in Nigeria. Administrative and financial guidance may be provided by the relevant ILO operations, administration, finance and security staff.
KEY DUTIES
• Drive office vehicles for official purposes.
• Meet official personnel at the airport and facilitate immigration and customs formalities.
• Collect and deliver mail, pouch, documents and other items.
• Maintain the assigned vehicle, including checking oil, water, battery, brakes and tyres; perform minor repairs; arrange other repairs; and keep the vehicle clean.
• Keep accurate records of vehicle use, mileage, fuel consumption, oil changes, greasing and other servicing.
• Follow required procedures if involved in an accident.
• Monitor the security situation, identify risks and inform the office about alternatives.
• Perform messenger services, photocopying and other office-support duties.
• Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor or Director.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Secondary education, a valid driver’s licence, knowledge of driving rules and regulations, and minor vehicle-repair skills.
Experience: At least two years’ experience as a driver with a safe driving record. Experience with technical cooperation projects, UN organisations or donors is an advantage.
Languages: Good knowledge of a Nigerian local language and ability to communicate in English.
COMPETENCIES
Safe driving and vehicle maintenance; accurate record keeping; ability to drive in local traffic conditions; ability to follow instructions; minor vehicle repair; ability to lift heavy mailbags and boxes; and a polite, courteous and cooperative manner.
