About the Job
Job Description
Working under the overall supervision of the Information Management Technology Officer and the direct supervision of the Senior Information and Communication Technology Team Lead, the successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, operation and maintenance of computer systems and hardware peripherals, and implementation of ICT requirements for IOM Abuja supporting all projects. The role will oversee daily incoming calls to the IT department, open help-desk tickets as appropriate, troubleshoot and correct minor IT issues, and route more complex IT issues to the Senior ICT and Head of ICT Unit, Abuja.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
1. Ensure installation of approved software systems on servers and workstations according to set standards. Install new hardware including PCs, laptops, servers, printers and software at any location, and periodically perform system clean-up.
2. Maintain installed software, ensuring proper updates, including the latest antivirus definitions, are applied and making optimisations when necessary.
3. Ensure end-user queries and constraints related to software and other ICT components are resolved in coordination with the Mission ICT Unit, escalating matters that cannot be resolved.
4. Support the Senior IT Assistant to ensure ICT activities comply with organisational rules, regulations and procedures, while reporting deviations and other constraints.
5. Support awareness-raising for mission staff on IOM ICT regulations and standards.
6. Manage email user accounts and mailing lists, checking lists constantly for integrity.
7. Provide first-level support and troubleshoot issues related to access, online connections, file storage and application functionality.
8. Act as the first point of contact for staff collecting new or replacement hardware.
9. Identify faulty devices and take necessary action to replace them; maintain logs of required repairs and maintenance; assist in maintaining IOM computers, peripherals and network devices; and report hardware malfunctions to the ICT Unit Head.
10. Maintain IT equipment inventory, monitor inventory levels and alert the supervisor when thresholds are reached. Identify and prepare hardware for disposal when appropriate. Track ICT equipment procurement requests, test new equipment and report to the Mission ICT Head.
11. Make user-data and server backups and randomly test backups for consistency.
12. Maintain IT standards, identify IT issues, and diagnose and resolve hardware, software or connectivity problems with minimum delay.
13. Support the Telerad system, file server, PACS server and iCRco_XC software. Ensure workstation and server hardware operates properly and hardware components perform to the expected standard.
14. Manage PABX and communication systems.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
• Completed university degree from an accredited academic institution in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
Experience
• Four years of relevant ICT experience, including operational and field experience.
• Ability to work with an established IT support centre through phone and email communication.
• Good knowledge of Windows operating systems and networking, VOIP, corporate Skype installations and other IOM-approved software as required.
• MSCE and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) qualifications are an added advantage.
Skills
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Publisher and SharePoint.
• Good knowledge of information technology.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to multitask and prioritise tasks.
Languages
Required: Fluency in English, oral and written.
Desirable: Working knowledge or fluency in Nigerian languages.
